The feeling I kept trying to recreate
I did not set out to build a company. I set out to recreate a feeling from a house I no longer lived in.

My mother's hands were in my hair before anyone asked her to put them there. The house was kept slightly too warm on purpose. Someone always noticed before you said anything was wrong. Nobody scheduled any of it. It happened the way weather happens.
I did not know that was rare until I left it.
For years afterwards I tried to buy it back in small amounts. A facial in a room with a ceiling fan. An afternoon somewhere with a price list by the door. I was never looking for a treatment. I was looking for the specific sensation of being noticed before I asked to be. Every place I went was well run and correct, and every place sent me home feeling processed.
I assumed I was being precious about it until I started asking the women around me. None of them described it the way I would have. Underneath the wording it was identical every time. Something they used to feel, and had quietly stopped expecting to feel again.
Somewhere warm on purpose, because someone wanted it that way for you.
I did not set out to build a company. I set out to recreate a feeling from a house I no longer lived in.
It has cost more than I planned. A practitioner I had trained withdrew seven days before our first bookings opened, and I did every one of those evenings myself, learning at the door what I had not thought to prepare for. I paid someone to train the next group before I understood what good training looked like, and the women who came after paid for that in small ways. I began with ten I believed in and watched the number fall to four, one resignation at a time, each one asking me the same question at two in the morning.
Some nights it still asks. I have stopped waiting for that to go away, and started treating it as part of the work.
What has not moved is the thing I was actually after. Not a service, not an appointment, not an hour of anyone's technique. A house that was warm on purpose before you had to ask for it. I am still learning to let myself be on the receiving end of that. I am building Vellora for every woman who has forgotten she is allowed to be.

I am building this alongside the women who book it, not ahead of them.
